Ivorian defender Eric Bailly has certainly caught the eye of several Manchester United fans during pre-season, with impressive performances coming nearly every game.

But, he could be on his way out to reunite with former United manager Jose Mourinho.

Three Italian clubs have shown an interest in Bailly over the last week: Napoli, AS Roma and AC Milan, who are all in search of a new defender.

In the last 48 hours however, Roma have steered away as clear front runners, already opening talks with both Bailly and United. In these talks, it is understood that Bailly has agreed to join Roma, with Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho being a huge factor.

Now, it is all about agreeing the type of transfer. Both parties are happy to opt for a loan with an obligation to buy, but United want the option to be just above £10 million, while Roma want to pay exactly £10 million. A one-year loan fee that is in the region of £3 million has been agreed.

Under two managers last season, Bailly only managed to play on four occasions, but a move to Roma could change this, due to the good relationship he has with ‘The Special One’.

In all competitions, the Ivorian defender featured in seven games, struggling to displace Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane as a regular starter.
