Manchester United have made an improved offer for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, as they continue their push for a centre-back.
United have been on the hunt for new defenders this summer, as they bid farewell to Raphael Varane and are willing to let go of the likes of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.
They are seemingly making moves in the market, with Chris Wheeler reporting on Monday night that United have submitted an improved bid of £45 million plus £5 million for Branthwaite.
This comes a month after a £35 million bid was rejected by Everton, who value him closer to £70 million.
Branthwaite was an integral member of Everton's squad last season and was one of the standout players, making 41 appearances in all competitions, also scoring three goals in the process.
David Ornstein has stated that the Toffees are poised to reject the offer, as the proposal falls far below their valuation and has no chance of being accepted.
Everton see the Harry Maguire, Wesley Fofana and Josko Gvardiol deals as pricing benchmarks.
In addition to this, United are also making moves to try to seal the signing of Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich, with the Red Devils increasingly confident of securing the move for the Dutchman.
Fabrizio Romano has said that United are treating the transfers as two separate deals, with both Branthwaite and de Ligt being keen on the move.
Additionally, United will most likely need to raise money from sales to secure big money moves. One of this is Mason Greenwood, with Marseille offering £27 million for the United outcast.
As it stands, United are in the market for de Ligt, Branthwaite, as well as Joshua Zirkzee, who is edging closer to a move to Old Trafford. This would represent relatively quick business by United's standards, possibly hinting at the change in direction that the new Sir Jim Ratcliffe ownership has brought.
