AS Monaco are reportedly interested in signing soon-to-be free agent Jerome Boateng this summer, rivalling Tottenham Hotspur and some unnamed MLS sides for his signature.

According to a report from France Football, former Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac wants to reunite with Boateng at Monaco.

It is reported that the Croatian manager wants to add plenty of experience to his relatively youthful squad, and with Boateng enjoying a resurgence in his career at Bayern Munich recently after some poor seasons, he could be a fantastic signing for the French side.

However, Boateng did fall down the pecking order during Kovac's time at Bayern Munich, and once Kovac left, the German defender seemed to restore his career in Germany, being granted more opportunities by Hansi Flick in the first-team.

Monaco are looking to improve their defence ahead of next season, with them conceding 41 goals in 36 Ligue 1 games this season, the most out of the league's top four, which has led to them drifting away from a possible title challenge.

Apart from Monaco, Spurs are also interested in Boateng, and according to Sky Germany and Bild, the English side started 'concrete talks' with the 32-year-old last month, and he is one of their priorities for the coming transfer window.

Spurs are looking to add to their options in defence, with the likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez not impressing this season, and with Toby Alderweireld struggling to get a decent run in the side.

Additionally, the reports state that moving to the MLS is also a possibility for the former Germany international, but he will most probably want a big contract in Europe before moving on to a league outside of Europe.

Boateng has had a very productive season with Bayern, making 37 appearances so far in all competitions, reestablishing a solid partnership at the heart of the defence with David Alaba, who is also set to leave the club at the end of the season.
