Liverpool are reportedly on the lookout to add to their options up front, and they have now set their sights on PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands forward Donyell Malen, but they face competition for his signature from Borussia Dortmund.

According to Sky Sports Germany (via Rousing the Kop), Liverpool are set to open talks with PSV for Malen, especially after his impressive form at Euro 2020.

The 22-year-old forward had a fantastic season with PSV, scoring 27 goals and providing ten assists in the process as well, as PSV finished second in Eredivisie.

Additionally, Malen has produced some impressive performance for the Netherlands at Euro 2020, even getting two assists despite playing just 92 minutes in total.

With Malen being valued at 30 million (via transfermarkt.com), he could be a great alternative to the high budget players that they have been linked with in the past, such as Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

However, a recent report from SportBILD (via BVB Newsblog) has also claimed that Borussia Dortmund are in discussions with Malen, with PSV reportedly wanting a €25 million fixed fee, which is then set to rise to €30 million with bonuses and add-ons.

Therefore, Liverpool will have to move quickly to seal the deal, as Dortmund are firm competitors to get the deal done.

Liverpool are searching for a new forward, especially since they are looking to sell Divock Origi this summer, and as a result they need a new striker to compete with Roberto Firmino.

Malen would be a dynamic forward that fits in with Liverpool's attack, in the same way that the signing of Diogo Jota has.
