Tottenham and Man United make approach for £50m Ajax star

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have both made approach to sign Ajax star Donny van de Beek.
According to reports from Sport, a Spanish publication, both Tottenham and Man United have contacted Ajax to sign the midfielder.
Reports have also claimed that the 23-year-old is also being targeted by Barcelona and Real Madrid, and van de Beek is still waiting to see if the two La Liga sides make a bid for him before considering a move to the Premier League.
Whilst Ajax are demanding a fee of around £50 million, Barcelona are not ready to spend that amount of money on one player given their financial difficulties due to the pandemic.
Barcelona are currently trying to raise funds by offloading some of their unwanted players, such as Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal.
However, Spurs and United are putting up a good fight to sign the Dutch international, even though Tottenham are working on a very limited budget.
Spurs are hoping to fund the deal by selling Tanguy Ndombele, whilst United do not have the need to sell any of their players to buy the Dutchman, yet they still have other priorities such as finding a centre-back and a right-winger.
Since they missed out on Jadon Sancho, United will be looking for another right-winger, and also a young centre-back to replace the outgoing Chris Smalling and the other defenders set to leave, such as Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones.
Van de Beek has impressed over the last few seasons, particularly during Ajax's Champions League run in 2018/19, help the Dutch side get to the semi-finals.
