Chelsea are currently in the process of trying to finalise the renewals of several key players, with them attracting plenty of interest from top European clubs.
Antonio Rudiger
Antonio Rudiger’s contract runs until June 2022, having signed back in 2018.
Early last season, during the Frank Lampard managerial era at Chelsea, he was in the shadows and was destined for a move out of the club as PSG and Tottenham Hotspur were heavily interested.
However, since Thomas Tuchel came to the club in January, Rudiger has become an integral part of the Chelsea first-team.
As of now, Rudiger has less than a year left on his contract, and many clubs are interested in the player.
His agent and the Chelsea board have been in discussions for months, however recently talks have slowed down, due to a substantial gap between salary demands from both the clubs and the player. Rudiger wants to be one of the highest paid defenders in Europe. An agreement is still far from being reached.
His main priority is to remain at Chelsea and in London as he loves the club and atmosphere. However, if a new contract cannot be agreed on, he will explore other possibilities in Europe.
Real Madrid are hugely interested, the club highly admire the defender and they want to sign the player on a free. They will hold discussions in January, to discuss a pre-contract agreement, if a deal looks impossible for Chelsea to complete.
The player's agent has already held brief talks with some representatives at Real Madrid. They’re closely monitoring his situation.
Paris-Saint-Germain are also interested in him. They were interested last year, when the player was not starting for Chelsea often and was sometimes left out of the match day squad under Frank Lampard.
Thomas Tuchel really liked Rudiger and he wanted to bring him to PSG, but now he has him at his disposal at Chelsea.
PSG’s interest still remains strong however, as they’re also closely monitoring his situation.
Bayern Munich is also another option for the defender, as Julian Nagelsmann likes the player and he sees him fitting in very well in his style of play and tactics at Bayern.
Bayern Munich have always had a mild interest in Antonio Rudiger, but as his new contract at Chelsea looks more unlikely day by day, they will not miss an opportunity to pounce and buy the player.
As of now, Chelsea are pushing to renew the contract of the player, as Thomas Tuchel loves the player and sees him as an integral part of the defence as well as the whole team.
Andreas Christensen
Andreas Christensen is set to sign a new deal at Chelsea until June 2026. The deal was set to be completed months ago, however some things slowed the deal down over the last few weeks, as Christensen's agent felt he was not being valued enough at Chelsea, but the matter has been solved since.
AC Milan are very interested in the player, due to the recent long-term injury attained by Simon Kjær at the club. Maldini loves Christensen, and he sees him as a great player for the future. They’ve been watching his situation very closely.
FC Barcelona are also admire the player. Xavi has told the board to watch his situation carefully as signing Andreas Christensen on a free, would be a great signing both financially and in football terms for Barcelona.
Overall, Chelsea FC are so confident in renewing his contract at the club.
Christensen’s priority was always to remain at Chelsea as it was the club he joined when he was very young, and it was the club that allowed him to grow into the player he is now.
He has also experienced success at the club, by winning the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup also. He sees his long-term future staying at the London-based club.
Other Contracts on the List for Chelsea
Chelsea have many other players on the list for renewal once Rudiger and Christensen’s futures are decided. The list is;
Cesar Azpilicueta
Jorginho
N’Golo Kante
Mason Mount
Many rumours circulating that Azpilicueta would like to leave the club in order to try a new challenge are false, as the player ‘bleeds blue’ and he is happy to stay at Chelsea until the latter years of his career, and maybe even retire at the club.
After last season, Jorginho has taken his game up a level, providing great performances for Chelsea. The club want to renew his contract as well, with him so happy at Chelsea and he would love to stay.
N’Golo Kante was spectacular last season , especially in the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League. He picked up consecutive man of the match awards and he played a huge role in winning the Champions League for Chelsea.
Kante was even in the Top Five for the Ballon d'Or. The club want to renew his contract for a few more years as Tuchel sees him as very important in the way that he wants Chelsea to play.
Mason Mount has become the present and the future of Chelsea, as Tuchel loves the player and the club would like Mount to sign a long-term contract at the club.
Mount has been a Chelsea fan since he was 6 years old and he wants to remain at the club that raised him from a young age. The club are confident in renewing his contract when the time comes.
