According to transfer news specialist Fabrizio Romano, plenty of Premier League clubs have been scouting Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic.

However, Tottenham Hotspur appear to be in pole position to sign the Serbian defender, as confirmed by the Italian journalist on a recent 'transfer special' with Spurs YouTuber Chris Cowlin.

Romano revealed that Spurs are one of the clubs interested in the 26-cap Serbian defender,.

Right after naming Eder Militao and Milan Skriniar as potential targets for Spurs, Romano went on to speak about Milenkovic as a Spurs option.

"Another interesting name is Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina because he’s out of contract in a year-and-a-half. He’s been scouted by a lot of English clubs and Tottenham are among those clubs sending scouts to look at this guy"

"In my opinion, he is so, so talented. [A] serious guy, a good player. Sometimes he’s also scoring goals, so he’s a good centre-back. For sure, I think that they will go for a centre-back, but we will have to see also about the budget that they could spend on this kind of player."

Romano claimed that Milenkovic would cost around £30 million to £36 million, and thus Spurs are one of the front-runners to sign him given that they are one of the wealthiest clubs in the Premier League.

Recently, Jose Mourinho has made it clear that some of his defensive options are not up to scratch, with Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez in particular facing harsh criticism from the manager and the Spurs fanbase.

Joe Rodon, who has impressed recently, made a big mistake against Liverpool for their third goal, but Mourinho still feels that the young defender has plenty to offer Spurs in the future.

Milenkovic has also been linked with Manchester United and Liverpool in recent windows, with both clubs monitoring the Serbian very closely. The Serbian has played 22 games in all competitions this season for Fiorentina, getting sent off in their recent game against Torino.
