Olivier Giroud set to leave Chelsea after just 33 Premier League minutes

Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud is set to leave the club after playing just 33 minutes in the Premier League this season.

The Frenchman has proven to be a very reliable forward in the Premier League, and whilst plenty of managers have praised his professionalism, Frank Lampard has opted to leave him out of the squad on numerous occasions.

Instead of Giroud, Lampard has opted to use the speed of new signing Timo Werner, along with young English forward Tammy Abraham.

However, with the European Championships coming next summer, Giroud will want to secure a starting spot for France, and without any sort of game-time at Chelsea, it will be difficult to do so.

The likes of Marcus Thuram, Anthony Martial and Wissam Ben Yedder are all starting regularly for their respective clubs, as they aim to battle it out for a spot next to the certain starters in Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann.

With there being just six months left on his Chelsea contract, Giroud will want regular playing-time, and he has been linked with numerous clubs as a result.

One of the clubs that he could leave Chelsea for in January is Inter, with former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte being a big fan of the Frenchman.

However, at Inter, he would not be first-choice, given Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez's great partnership.

Speaking on his future last month, he said despite being willing to fight for his place, a move in January is also possible.

"There is competition but I will fight and we saw the rewards of that at the end of last season."

He added that he is 'convinced' that he has "a role to play at Chelsea", but concluded by saying "We will see in January maybe."
