Newcastle United are continuing to push for 24-year-old Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, who is among their top targets for the summer.
Newcastle have been pursuing Guehi for the whole summer, as they seek to shore up their defence ahead of the start of the Premier League season.
Earlier on Monday, Alex Howell reported that Newcastle submitted a third offer for the Palace defender, believed to be in the region of £60 million.
However, the Eagles value him closer to £70 million, yet talks are still ongoing.
Later, Fabrizio Romano stated that Newcastle are becoming 'increasingly confident' that they can get the deal done with a new proposal sent to Palace.
Negotiations are underway, with the clubs still in talks.
Right now, the Toon have Lloyd Kelly, Fabian Schar, and Dan Burn who can play at centre-back, with Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles still recovering from long-term injuries. The defence has been identified as a key area that Eddie Howe wants to strengthen this summer.
Last season, Newcastle conceded 62 goals in the Premier League, only bettering Chelsea's 63 goals conceded in the top eight.
Guehi was an integral figure in the Palace defence last season, a team that was resolute defensively for much of the campaign. He featured in 29 games in all competitions, with his season being hampered by a knee injury towards the latter stages of the season.
However, his stock rose massively during UEFA Euro 2024, when he was one of the surprise packages in England's run to the Final.
