Newcastle put £49m bid for Lazio forward

According to reports, Newcastle United have put in a bid for Lazio forward Ciro Immobile, with it rumoured to be around £49 million.

La Gazzetta Dello Sport also added that Newcastle are ready to offer Immobile wages of around £7.1 million for every season in a five year contract.

Immobile would be a great signing for Newcastle, being a proven goalscorer, scoring 116 goals in 167 appearances in all competitions for Lazio throughout his four seasons there.

Newcastle have struggled up front throughout the season, with Joelinton, Dwight Gayle and Andy Carroll all struggling up front. Newcastle have scored just 25 goals in the Premier League this season, the joint-lowest in the league with bottom-placed Norwich City.

In comparison, Immobile alone has scored 27 goals in 26 Serie A games this season.

However, Immobile has previously struggled outside of Italy, scoring just 10 goals in 34 games in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund, and just four goals in 15 games in all competitions for Sevilla in 2014/15 and 2015/16 respectively.

If Newcastle actually complete the takeover, their investment in the playing squad is set to increase dramatically.
