Newcastle ace becomes a top target for Manchester United as Solskjaer seeks to rebuild the squad

Manchester United plan to make a bid for Newcastle United's Sean Longstaff in the next 48 hours, with the young Englishman starring for the Magpies this season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to completely rebuild the Manchester United squad, as he hopes to get rid of plenty of players that failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League this season. The Norwegian is looking to base his team on youth and enthusiasm, rather than just star names.

Whilst Longstaff impressed this season, he was restricted to only nine Premier League appearances, after he suffered a knee injury in the beginning of March, ruling him out for the rest of the season.

However, when he played he was a massive player for Newcastle, impressing in holding midfield. In his nine appearances, Longstaff has averaged 1.9 tackles every match, whilst also completing 1.7 dribbles every match. These may seem average, but considering that he played for a Newcastle side that was rooted to the bottom half of the table, these figures are still impressive.

Longstaff starred in particular in Newcastle's shock 2-1 win against Manchester City at the back-end of January, with that match being the last time that City dropped points.

Manchester United are said to have put forward their first offer for the Englishman, and if a chance for the 21-year-old to play for Manchester United, there will be no doubt that he will be accepting that offer.
