Mason Greenwood: The Jadon Sancho alternative?

Mason Greenwood put on a show against Bournemouth on Saturday, scoring two of Manchester United's goals as they won 5-2.

The star 18-year-old put on another magnificent performance, as he continues to cement his place in the United side, managing three goals and one assist in his last two Premier League games, all starting from the right wing.

This poses the question: Do Man United really need to buy Jadon Sancho?

By the signs that Greenwood is showing, they really do not have to, with Greenwood managing a staggering 16 goals and five assists in 42 appearances in all competitions.

At first, that might seem like quite an underwhelming amount, but considering that he is still 18, and that he has played an average of just 49 minutes each appearance, being involved in a goal every 99 minutes.

Apart from this, considering that he is naturally a striker, he is still impressing from the wing, having a magnificent goal contribution for his age.

Greenwood has also managed to be very mature for his age, being very efficient with his passing, managing an average of 86.1% pass success rate in the Premier League.

Whilst Sancho has more goals and assists throughout the season, he has also started much more games for Borussia Dortmund, with Sancho starting 25 of his 32 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, whilst Greenwood only started seven of his 26 Premier League appearances.

Sancho will also cost United a hefty fortune, with their €50 million bid being immediately turned down, with rumours of a fee of around €90 million being enough.

Sancho's 20 goals and 18 assists might seem tempting for United, but Greenwood is already at the club, already accustomed to the league, younger, and is an academy product, with the latter being something that United pride themselves on, so it seems to make much more sense for United to just build on the foundations that Greenwood has put into place.
