Manchester United completely rule out move for Matthijs de Ligt

According to sources from Sky Sports, Manchester United have ruled out the possibility of there being a move for Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

Throughout the course of the weekend, there were several reports linking the Dutch teenager with a possible move to United, for a staggering £65 million.

However, there are plenty of sources indicating that Manchester United have withdrawn their interest completely from De Ligt, as rumours that he will be going to Barcelona growing all the time.

Manchester United are in desperate need for a reshuffle in the squad, mainly in defence, and De Ligt has definitely caught the eye of many with him being a regular for Ajax in the last three seasons, as he captained the team to win a league and cup double this season.

Ajax were also surprise semi-finalists this season in the UEFA Champions League, and the towering centre-back was crucial to that run, a run in which he became the youngest ever player to captain a side in the Champions League semi-finals.

As Manchester United find themselves in the Europa League, getting such marquee signings will definitely be much more difficult than before, and with the transfer for De Ligt being off, who knows who the English club will have in defence next season.
