Atletico Madrid managed to sign Kieran Trippier for a reported £20 million on Wednesday in what was a truly surprising transfer, and Trippier has revealed the major reason for choosing the Spanish giants.
Trippier stated that working under Diego Simeone is an "absolute privilege"and it was a huge factor in taking his decision to join Atletico Madrid.
In an interview after his unveiling, he said that he sees Simeone as a manager of the highest regard, adding that "From watching Atletico over the years you see what he demands of his team, the work ethic. They give everything for the team, the badge. It’s like a big family here and I wanted to be a part of this."
"For me, he’s one of the best managers in the world and it’s an absolute privilege to play for him and give everything I can for him."
He also added that whilst he deems the Premier League as the best league in the world, when interest from Atletico Madrid came, he "didn't think twice."
Trippier will become only the 11th English player to have played in La Liga this century, with many not fulfilling their potential in Spain, except for the remarkable David Beckham.
