Jose Mourinho targeting Milan Skriniar alternative likened to Nemanja Vidic

Jose Mourinho targeting Milan Skriniar alternative likened to Nemanja Vidic

Tottenham Hotspur are set to follow their busy summer transfer window with even more business in January, and they are set to target another centre-back.

Spurs secured the signing of Swansea City centre-back Joe Rodon during the extended domestic transfer window, yet Jose Mourinho is already keen on extending the options at the back-line even more.

Whilst making a good start in the Premier League this season, sitting in third with 14 points from seven games, Mourinho is still unsure about his centre-backs, especially with Davinson Sanchez showing signs of inconsistency.

As a result, Mourinho has identified Inter's Milan Skriniar as his top target, but has also identified Fiorentina's Nikola Milenkovic as a possible alternative, with Inter proving to be tough to deal with.

The Serbian 20-year-old has been linked with plenty of moves away from Fiorentina, with Spurs facing competition from Manhester United, Inter and also Atletico Madrid.

The defender is extremely physical, especially since he is six foot five tall, and could prove to be an astute signing to partner Toby Alderweireld, who is a much more ball-playing defender.

Rodon, who signed for Spurs earlier, resembles Alderweireld much more than Milenkovic does, and so the two might be able to form a good partnership in the future.

The Serbian has been likened to Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic in the past, mainly for his physical approach to defending.

This season, Milenkovic has averaged 2.2 tackles and 2.2 interceptions per game in Serie A, also pitching in the attack with a goal and an assist.

However, Fiorentina are demanding plenty of money for Milenkovic, who they rate very highly, with their transfer demands reaching the £35 million to £40 million marks.
