Liverpool might have to work hard to keep hold of their experienced midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, with Inter moving forward with their reported plan to sign the Dutch international according to reports.

According to a report from FC Inter News of the TuttoMercatoWeb network, Inter have a plan in place to try and sign Wijnaldum.

The first part of the plan is to try and sell Christian Eriksen, who only joined Inter in January for £17 million, but has struggled in Antonio Conte's system.

Inter Chief Executive Giuseppe Marotta openly stated on Wednesday that Inter will try to sell Eriksen in January.

If they do manage to sell Eriksen, they will move in to try and sign Wijnaldum in January, and they have a big chance to sign him considering that the Dutchman wants to sign a four-year contract.

Apart from that Wijnaldum wants a significant pay rise, and given that he is 30, they might want to get rid of his relatively high wages in order to cater for other signings.

Wijnaldum has been a regular starter for Liverpool this season, but he has struggled for consistency, and there are other players challenging him for his spot in the side, but due to injuries, he has still played regularly.

Wijnaldum was also wanted by FC Barcelona, but Inter know that the Spanish club cannot afford to sign the Dutchman due to several financial problems, and so they have emerged as the favourites for his signature.

Given that Inter can agree pre-contract terms with Wijnaldum in January, they will move in swiftly for the 30-year-old, boosting their options in midfielder even more.
