Former Monaco talent 'was not ready' for Liverpool move

Former AS Monaco talent Christian Koffi has explained the reason why he did not join Liverpool back in 2018.

The Fiorentina winger was reportedly a target for Liverpool in the summer of 2018, with a deal being agreed between Liverpool and Monaco at the time. But Koffi never joined.

Some suggested that Koffi would be a future replacement for Sadio Mane, with his play-style being extremely similar to the Senegalese winger.

Since then, Koffi has admitted that he did not feel ready to join Liverpool, and that choosing Fiorentina and Italy over the Premier League was a good decision for him.

Koffi stated that he chose Fiorentina for his "progress" and that "Liverpool is more than a big club" and he "was not ready" at the time.

He also added that the deal did not have "good timing", with it coming too early in his career.

This season, Koffi has so far been prominent in Fiorentina's Primavera side, not playing a single game for La Viola's first-team.

Throughout the season, Koffi has captained the side on several occasions, and has scored give goals and provided four assists.

Given their past interest, Liverpool will undoubtedly be monitoring the 19-year-old's progress even more, but he will definitely need to improve if he is to secure a move to Liverpool in the future.
