Former Liverpool defender set for La Liga move

Javier Manquillo's agent has begun talks with several La Liga clubs, with the Spanish defender hoping to leave for Spain once his current contract at Newcastle United expires.

The 26-year-old signed for Newcastle from Atletico Madrid for £4.2 million back in 2017, when Rafael Benitez was turning his side into a completely different team.

Manquillo is yet to start contract negotiations with the Magpies, and as a result, has been keen on a move elsewhere.

According to reports, Manquillo has been offered to both Sevilla and Real Betis, but neither of the two sides have responded with an offer yet.

One of the biggest concerns for Manquillo is his wages, with him seeking a similar wage to what he is earning in the Premier League, which is reportedly quite extortionate compared to the average salaries of La Liga players.

So far this season, Manquillo has made 15 appearances for the club, and whilst he has not featured regularly, many think that this has been his best season for Newcastle ever since joining them in 2017.

Manquillo has managed to be solid defensively under the management of Steve Bruce, and has taken Emil Krafth's place in the team.
