Aston Villa have reportedly reignited their interested in re-signing Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe, who is set for a loan move this summer.
According to a report from Football Insider, Villa are chasing Tuanzebe's signature, with Dean Smith wanting him back in the squad after a successful loan spell with them a few seasons ago.
A source from Aston Villa has reportedly told Football Insider that the club have a 'concrete' interested in the Manchester United defender, and they will move in for him if encouraged to do so.
Villa want a new centre-back this summer, especially after selling Bjorn Engels to Royal Antwerp earlier this month.
Smith wants a young defender that is able to compete with Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa, having the right amount of Premier League experience to fill in for them if needed.
Tuanzebe is the sort of defender that he is looking for, and with him having successful loan spells at Villa during 2017/18 and 2018/19, Smith might be encouraged to move in for him given that he knows what he will get by signing Tuanzebe.
While Tuanzebe has reportedly expressed his desire to leave United on loan for regular playing time, and going to Villa could be the perfect opportunity for him.
The 23-year-old struggled for playing time last season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, making just 19 appearances in all competitions for United.
Tuanzebe only has a year remaining on his contract at United, with them having the option of extending his deal by another 12 months, which United are set to exercise in order to avoid letting him go on a free.
Therefore, signing him on loan looks like the likeliest option for Villa this summer.
