Aston Villa are reportedly planning to launch a move to re-sign Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe this summer.

According to a report from Football Insider, Aston Villa are keen to sign Tuanzebe from Manchester United permanently, with the defender spending a season on loan at Villa Park in 2018/19.

Dean Smith's side are currently hunting a new senior centre-back in order to replace Bjorn Engels, who is set to be sold in the coming transfer window after failing to nail down a place in the starting eleven, especially with the impressive performances of tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa.

Football Insider have reported that Villa have shortlisted Tuanzebe as one of their options for a potential move in the summer.

The 23-year-old fits the profile that Villa's recruitment are looking for, as he is a proven Premier League defender that still has plenty of room to improve.

Tuanzebe has struggled for regular game-time this season, making 15 appearances in all competitions, yet just one of them has been a start in the Premier League.

His performances this season have been very mixed, being a very inconsistent defender that was able to hold his own in some games, whilst failing to hit the mark in others.

The centre-back still has a year left on his current contract at United, also having the option to extend his time at the club by another year according to his current deal.

Tuanzebe spent a season on loan with Villa in 2018/19, and he was one of their most important players as they got promoted back to the Premier League.

During that season, he made 24 starts in the Championship, making a good enough impression for Villa to chase his signature once again.

With him reaching the end of his contract, and with him being on the fringes at United, it is possible that a fee of just £7 million could be enough to tempt United to sell the defender, especially if he decides that he wants a move away from the club.
