Aston Villa are reportedly eyeing a new midfielder this summer, and Borussia Dortmund's Axel Witsel has emerged as one of their top targets.
According to a report from Italian outlet Tuttosport, Aston Villa have earmarked Wistel as one of their main targets for the remaining days of the transfer window, and he could be available for cheap.
Central midfield is a key area that Villa manager Dean Smith is eager to strengthen before the transfer window slams shut, and signing Witsel would definitely a statement of intent.
Apart from Witsel, Villa are also reportedly chasing Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie, with Smith having a wide variety of targets for the position.
Witsel is a vastly experienced midfielder that has just one year left on his current contract at Borussia Dortmund, leading to Tuttosport reporting that he could be available for just €5 million this summer.
Signing a midfielder possessing such quality for so cheap would definitely be a steal for Villa, and it would be an absolute no-brainer to push for a deal.
Witsel has also showcased his versatility over recent seasons, with him starting at centre-back for Dortmund this season, playing in that position in the two Bundesliga games so far.
The vastly experienced Belgian missed half of last season out due to an Achilles tendon rupture injury, but he still managed to play in 22 games in all competitions, impressing a great deal whenever he was fit.
