Arsenal are reportedly the frontrunners in the race to sign Juventus outcast Arthur Melo, who is determined to leave the Bianconeri as soon as possible.

According to Calciomercato, Arsenal are leading the race to sign Arthur from the Bianconeri in the January transfer window.

The Gunners will need to add to their current options in midfield as soon as possible, with Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey set to miss a few games due to the African Cup of Nations, and Ainsley Maitland-Niles being poised for a move away to AS Roma.

As a result, their only options in central midfield for the start of 2022 seem to be Granit Xhaka and Albert Sambi Lokonga, as well as Martin Odegaard possibly slotting deeper into midfield than his usual position.

Edu is reportedly searching looking for potential reinforcements from the market, and Arthur is reportedly on his wish list.

The Brazilian midfielder is surplus to requirements at Juventus and is searching for a way out of the club, and Arsenal are reportedly the main candidates to land his signature.

Additionally, Arthur's agent claimed that they are now "looking for solutions for Arthur Melo together with Juventus - he needs to play because of the World Cup", according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 25-year-old has failed to establish himself as a key player for the Bianconeri, and since Maurizio Sarri's dismissal he has been on the fringes of the squad, and this season he has only made ten appearances in all competitions so far, with just four of them being starts.
